Deputies, CHP Find Lost Hikers Near Fairfax

FAIRFAX, Calif. (AP) ― Authorities in Marin County have been busy lately looking for lost hikers.

Seven Marin County deputies, a water district ranger and a California Highway Patrol air crew were all called out to locate two hikers who were lost after dark Saturday in the hills above Fairfax.

Marin County Sheriff's Lt. Bruce Baker says the hikers used a cell phone to call for help. The CHP helicopter called in to help in the search spotted the hikers about 8:30 p.m.

Authorities did not identify the hikers, except to say they were a couple from the East Bay.

Baker says Saturday was the third day in row that the Sheriff's Department has had to help find missing hikers.

Deputies were sent out to look for two lost hikers Thursday, then again on Friday.
