BANNING, Calif. (AP) ― Some weather extremes in Southern California.

Gusty winds unleashed during a fierce thunderstorm knocked out power in the desert city of Banning Tuesday afternoon, while other areas baked under nearly triple-digit temperatures.

Officials say almost 2,000 people in Banning lost power after strong winds downed six power poles around 2:30 p.m.

The storm brought more than an inch of rain in the mountains above the city in Riverside County.

No injuries or major damages were reported.

In and around Los Angeles, temperatures hit the high 90s. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported its highest power demand of the year as customers cranked up air conditioners.
