Storm Brings Rain, Winds To Southland

LOS ANGELES A late-season storm is expected to bring rain, snow and strong winds to the Southland on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service forecasters.

The rain is predicted to develop across Ventura and Los Angeles counties in the afternoon and last into the early evening.

"As cold air aloft associated with the center of the upper low spreads into Southwestern California, the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable, leading to some locally heavy showers," the advisory stated.

Rain totals are expected to average between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch in coastal and valley areas. Residents in the foothills and mountains can expect between one and two inches, according to the NWS. The highest totals will happen on and below south-facing slopes and in areas hit by thunderstorms.

As of Wednesday, "major widespread problems are not anticipated for the burn areas, especially given the growth of some vegetation in these areas," the NWS advisory said, referring to areas previously denuded by wildfire.

"However, this will have to be monitored closely, and residents in and around the burn areas should stay tuned for later forecasts."

Snow accumulations are expected to be between three and five inches above 7,000 feet, with more than seven inches possible in some areas.

Strong winds are also expected in the Antelope Valley and the mountains of Los Angeles County during the afternoon and night.
