Snow Falls On Coachella Valley

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) ― One day it's 85 degrees -- a few days later it's snowing. Doesn't sound much like weather in Southern California.

Forecasters say snow flurries dusted portions of the Coachella Valley Thursday, including Beaumont, Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs -- areas where temperatures had soared to 85 degrees just days ago.

The National Weather Service says temperatures in the area dropped to 47 degrees.

A Twentynine Palms resident says snow blew across a highway in Morongo, replacing the sand that normally covers the road.

The weather service says the unusual weather was caused by a low pressure system that originated in the Gulf of Alaska.
