The 18th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest has kicked off in California. The winner of the dubious prize will be given his or her crown after votes are tallied.
The voting for the ugliest dog is being conducted online, through the website for the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California.
Most of the entrants are of the Chinese Crested breed, an almost hairless dog that usually has a strip of wiry white hair running down the center of its head -- kind of like a doggie mohawk.
This year, there are 18 contestants in the Ugliest Dog contest, and the pageant is televised by Animal Planet.
