Ill. Man Declares 'No Brozos' With Anti-Obama Sign

UNINCORPORATED KANE COUNTY, Ill. (CBS) ― There are just 19 days left until voters choose a new president, but some supporters are turning to tactics that are being described loosely as "offensive," reports CBS station WBBM-TV in Chicago.

Along Route 47, just north of the town of Lilly Lake, stands a sign. On it is a depiction of black presidential nominee Barack Obama. He's wearing a red Bozo-like wig and nose. A red line cuts through the senator's face. The words "No Brozos" are written boldly, right below it.

Illinois State Rep. Jim Durkin, who is state chairman of John McCain's campaign, found the sign to be incredibly offensive.

"I think that what I'm seeing right now and witnessing first hand is a level that has gone beyond just bitter rivals. There's hatred and I think it's horrible," Durkin said.

The creator of the four-by-eight-foot image surrounded the base with barbed wire to prevent vandalism. Local police say he doesn't want to talk to the media. He's expressing his right to free speech, much like a Republican woman's group in California. They've created a $10 bill with Obama on it. Surrounding him, are pictures of fried chicken, KoolAid, ribs and watermelon.

"They need to talk to me, if they look through the history of stereotypes for African Americans," said Republican activist Acquanetta Warren. "That's awful."

Vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been under attack, too, with obscene t-shirts cropping up.

"Politics have gotten to a point where it's so much an 'us versus them,'" Durkin said.

While the Obama campaign declined to comment for this story, there seems to be no end in sight to people expressing their views when it comes to this presidential race.
