Fifty pounds of marijuana has been found stuffed in tires of a car stopped in Bell Gardens for a traffic violation.
Lt. Jeff Travis says officers pulled over the vehicle Thursday about 15 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles and the 25-year-old driver suddenly ran.
James Garcia of Norwalk was found hiding between houses and explained he fled because there were drugs in the car.
Drug-sniffing dogs discovered the marijuana hidden in two spare tires as well as the tires on the car.
Garcia was arrested and booked for investigation of possession and transportation of marijuana for sale. The vehicle was registered to a post office box in the border town of San Ysidro and the lieutenant says Garcia was like "a mule" for a large drug operation.
