If you don't see the Hollywood sign Thursday, don't be too alarmed.
According to a published report, a San Francisco-based environmental group plans on covering the sign.
The Los Angeles Police Department has e-mailed a "community alert notification" to Hollywood residents, urging that they "not be alarmed" because the sign "will remain in place and there will be no changes done to the sign."
That report was first published by the LA Times on their Web site.
The sign is being covered in conjunction with Thursday's announcement of a land preservation initiative Thursday by the Trust for Public Land, The Times reported.
Trust spokesperson Tim Ahern said "The police department jumped the gun."
He said his group was still waiting for official permission to cover the sign.
