Man, 60, Falls To His Death While Parachuting

PERRIS A 60-year-old Whittier man fell to his death while parachuting in Perris over the weekend, authorities said today.

Harold F. Leicher was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Goetz Road, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

The parachute opened but the victim came in too hard, authorities said.
Apparently Leicher "had a particularly hard landing," said Diaz. The victim had been in "an out of control spiral," just before landing, according to witnesses at the scene, Diaz said.
