Imagine getting an alert that an earthquake is coming before it hits.
New sensors will be placed along the San Andreas Fault that may give Inland Empire residents as much as a 30-second notice, it was reported last week.
Scientists at the Pasadena-based U.S. Geological Survey say the project will cost $680,000 and should be completed by the end of the year, The Press-Enterprise reported.
Officials hope the warning system could give people enough time to prepare themselves. Some are concerned that the alert will encourage people to run, which is highly discouraged in the event of an earthquake.
More information on the project is available on U.S. Geological Survey online.
