Behind The Badge: LAPD Holds Academy For Community

GRANADA HILLS (CBS) ― Want to know how the real CSI works or what it feels like to strap on a bullet-proof vest?

The LAPD's Community Academy holds educational courses for citizens, demonstrating what an average day is like for the men and women behind the badges.

Academy participants come from a diverse array of backgrounds, ranging from lawyers to retirees to aspiring police officers.

For those who watched "Miami Vice," they got to see what real "vice officers" do on the job, from spotting underground prostitution rings to enforcing drug and alcohol laws.

Officers expound on crime scene investigation, gang enforcement, crimes against minors and much more.

For the first time, CBS 2 has been given full access to the course and will show viewers the ins and outs of the police department.
