Vudu Is Instant Movie Magic
(CBS)
We try out Vudu, a set top box that uses your high speed internet connection to deliver a library of 6,000 movies on demand to your TV screen.
For this product test, I called up my good friend Bryan Bishop. Two reasons for this - first, when I was on the radio show he works for, the Adam Carolla show, host Adam asked me - isn't there just a box that will give me access to tons of movies on demand? I said yes, the Vudu. Secondly, Bryan also hosts his own Movie-themed radio show and is a huge movie buff. I figured this is perfect for a guy like him.
Here's the short of it before I get into the long of it - the box delivers as promised, and it's pretty darn cool - as long as you have a HIGH SPEED internet connection. I'm not talking the $14.99 DSL deal either. You'll need a high end premium DSL package or an internet connection from your cable company for best results.
Setup is pretty simple - just connect the box to your internet connection (using a wire, no WiFi allowed) and your TV, preferably with an HDMI cable (included). Then just let it connect and download some software updates for a bit and you're ready to watch.
Browsing through the movie selection couldn't be simpler - the remote is super easy to use. Movie selection is good but could be better, but it's about the best you'll get for a pure-digital service. Keep in mind many times it's not Vudu who's in charge of what movies are available.
Check your internet speed to see if it's fast enough for Vudu:
