The owners of a pub in Somerville, Mass., are hoping a movie being filmed in their bar will translate into fame and fortune.
The movie about the founding of Facebook, starring Justin Timberlake, is filming for two days in the Thirsty Scholar pub, reports CBS station WBZ.
Owner Patrick Cross says they didn't seek out the film, Hollywood found them.
"Back in May a photographer came into the Thirsty Scholar and took about 100 pictures," he said. "(The photographer) said it was for possible position in upcoming movie."
The pub's owners found out in August, they got the gig.
"One of the things the director liked is that it really was a place...the kids would be drinking here most likely," said location manager Bill Doyle.
Pub owner Gerry Brennan recalls his first thoughts after finding out they got the film.
"You say, this is it, this is our chance to be in the big time."
The big time can translate into big profits, as one small Southie bar found out 12 years ago. When the L St. Tavern was featured in the movie, Good Will Hunting, it didn't take long for a response.
"It was immediate," said owner Susan Woods. Woods credits the movie for giving them not only national attention, but also international recognition."
"At one time we had a sign in book and there were people from South Africa and Ireland and from all over the world and they're still coming."
Woods says Good Will Hunting has brought thousands of tourists to the L St. Tavern over the years. Not only do they sell them drinks, but also commemorative t-shirts and pint glasses.
Already, the Social Network is drawing crowds to the Thirsty Scholar. The owners hope this is just the beginning.
