Imagine driving past a park at dusk and seeing a bunch of people playing with light sabers. It happens weekly at Palm Park in Los Angeles, where a group called LA Jedi meet to practice using light sabers. Sure, it's a mostly Star Wars loving crowd, but many in the group are also into martial arts.
There are about 50 people in the group, and the light sabers are just as cool as the choreography. I was surprised to find out they're powered by a few AA or AAA batteries! They also make all the neat sounds you'd expect to hear when they're fighting.
And about that fighting - they're not out to kill each other. It's just for fun - think of it more as a choreographed art.
Classes are free.
