Love Makes Top Five, Selected By Grizzlies
NEW YORK (AP) ―
Kevin Love is the second UCLA Bruin taken in tonight's NBA draft. The Memphis Grizzlies have chosen the center with the fifth overall pick, one selection after college teammate Russell Westbrook was taken by Seattle.
Love had a tremendous impact on the Bruins as a freshman last season, averaging 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. He become only the second freshman to be named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, and earned consensus First-Team All-America honors before entering the draft. Love also was a finalist for the Wooden and Naismith Awards after setting school single-season records for points and rebounds.
The 6-foot-10 Love scored at least 10 points in every game last season, reaching the 20-point mark 11 times. He recorded 23 double-doubles, including a 26-point, 18-rebound assault against Oregon. His first college game was memorable as he provided 22 points and 13 rebounds against Portland State. He also led the Bruins to the NCAA Final Four before he was held in check by Memphis in the semifinals.
