Gary Miller: On The Road With The Dodgers
CHICAGO
The computer service has been down pretty much since we got to the Westin, which is the DODGERS hotel, so haven't been able to update you, and who knows if this will post right.
This is my first charter, which is pretty cool, and we've got a lot of the video from day one here on the web, of loading at the stadium, flying out, and arriving in Chicago.
Even have a behind the scenes tour for you with traditional transport on the El from the hotel to Wrigley yesterday.
It was amazing to see Vin Scully get wanded, and have to raise his legs on a chair just like every one of the Dodgers' personel, and our entourage of accomponying media and office people.
One thing you notice, beside the SIGNIFICANT temperature drop between L.A., and my original hometown of Chicago, is the footwear.
Unlike L.A., this is very much a walking town. You can go for blocks, passing hundreds of people, and not see ONE pair of heels.
The only heels you see are on the backs of knee high boots, or some out of towner. Every other female is wearing flats, or nikes, even in suits and dresses.
Tons of Cubs gear everywhere, but little or not anti=Dodger stuff, atleast not yet. Since these two starting meeting more than 100 years ago, this is the first time they've ever faced one another in a postseason.
There's still plenty of hatred in the Windy City for the Mets (69) and Padres, (84), and of course the Cardinals, but nothing major for L.A....yet.
Big news today is James McDonald made the postseason roster, after pitching at AA and AAA this year, and not being called up until September first.
Should be interesting to see how, if at all, Joe decides to use him. Same with Maddux.
Kent has been turned into primary pinch-hitter, and their hoping Furcal gives them something close to what he gave them in April.
I'm predicting a Dodger split here, Cubs in game 3, but this series could easily go 5, and Dodgers have a great chance to advance.
