After Phoenix's loss at Boston on Wednesday night, Shaquille O'Neal was asked who he likes in the race for MVP.
"The Kobester, he's an assassin, with LeBron [James] coming in right behind. After that, I really haven't been paying attention."
Kobe has never won a MVP in his career.
Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki won the award last season.
Heading into Friday's game with Memphis, the Lakers find themselves tied with Houston for second place in the Western Conference.
