The Los Angeles
Dodgers are trying to hang on to a share of the National League wild card -- and possibly move
back into the division lead -- as they try to salvage the finale of a three-game series with the Pittsburgh
Pirates Thursday night.
Los Angeles starts play tied with Philadelphia for the wildcard.
The Phillies, though, have an off day before starting a three-game weekend series at home with Florida Friday night.
The Marlins also are vying for the wild card.
If Los Angeles is swept at home by Pittsburgh -- for the first time in six years -- the Dodgers will fall one-half game behind the Phillies. But the Dodgers also can move back into first place in the N.L. West if they win and San Diego loses to Arizona.
L.A. lost for the eleventh time in 17 games with a 6-to-4 defeat at Pittsburgh Wednesday night.
