Crenshaw Looks To Stop A Powered Lakewood Offense

KCAL 9 Game Of The Week

LAKEWOOD, Calif. (CBS) ― Key Players:

Lakewood
                                                   Crenshaw
QB Jesse Scroggins   6-2, 190 Jr.                    LB Hayes Pullard     6-2, 200 Jr.
LB/DB Trevor Erno     6-3, 226 Sr.                   DB Noel Grigsby      5-11, 160 Sr.
WR Kevin Anderson    5-11, 175 Jr.                 WR Geno Hall          5-9, 160 Jr.

If there is one thing that Lakewood Coach Thadd MacNeal knows, its offense.

MacNeal was the offensive coordinator for Orange County coaching legend John Barnes at Los Alamitos before taking over the Lakewood Lancer program three years ago.

In 2007, the Lancers finished 7-4, 5-1 in Moore League play.

Lakewood averaged 31ppg last year and much more is expected of the Lancers this season with the return of junior quarterback Jesse Scoggins.

As a sophomore in '07 Scroggins was 1st All Moore League completing 60% of his passes, throwing for over 1500 yards, with 17 touchdowns and more importantly only three interceptions.

MacNeal is also expecting big things out of newcomer Jerry Stone.

MacNeal says the 5-10, 195 tailback is going to 'light up' the Moore league.

The Lancers first test is against the very fast Crenshaw Cougars.

Last year Crenshaw took the Coliseum League of the City Section before running to the City semis.

Their defense is led by junior linebacker Hayes Pullard.

As a fullback last season, Pullard averaged just less than seven yards per carry but makes his noise on the defensive side of the ball.

He is considered to be the top linebacker in the City Section.

Pullard is helped in the defensive backfield by Noel Grigsby.

Offensively, the Cougars will try to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers, primarily WR Geno Hall.

There is just one word to describe Hall --fast.

Grigsby is also capable offensively.

Last season, he averaged 22 yards per catch and scored eight touchdowns.

It will be a good early season test for both teams.

Expect this to be an offensive shootout with Lakewood pulling away in the eventually.
