Palin, seen here in Feb. 26, 2008, is a first-term governor and former beauty queen. She is known for her dynamic personality and has been a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and staunchly opposes abortion rights. She, like McCain, is a conservative with a maverick streak who has shown a willingness to clash with others in her own party.
