Patrick Wayne Swayze was born in Houston, Texas on August 18, 1952. He started as a dancer and studied at the Joffrey Ballet School. He made his film debut in 1979 as Ace in "Skatetown U.S.A." and quickly rose to fame after "North and South," "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" -- the latter of which earned him the nickname "King of the Sleepers."
Patrick was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008. We at CBS 2 and KCAL 9 wish him the best of luck in his fight with the disease.
