Temecula Second-Grader Brought Knife To School
TEMECULA, Calif.
A Temecula second-grader was facing possible expulsion for bringing a knife to school and waving it at his classmates, a Temecula Valley Unified School District information officer said on Friday.
The student waved the knife Thursday afternoon during school hours at Vail Elementary School, 29915 Mira Loma Drive, the district's Melanie Norton said.
According to a 7-year-old classmate, three girls in the boy's second- grade class were trying to pull him away from a tree in order to keep red ants from biting him, when the boy pulled the knife from his pocket and opened it, brandishing it at the girls.
The frightened girls began to cry and ran to tell the principal, one of the girls told reporters.
The blade was a Swiss Army pen knife, Norton said.
Norton added that the school's police resource officer was informed of the incident.
"It's really a school disciplinary matter," said Norton. "The principal is handling it."
Norton could not say what will happen to the boy but said, "Having a weapon is grounds for expulsion."
