Mariachi Music Legacy Passed On To Kids At Camp

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Amid the economic downturn, many schools are cutting back on programming, with music and the arts often being the first departments hit.

Luckily, music will keep on playing for more than 100 Los Angeles children who will take part in the 3rd Mariachi Music Camp in downtown Los Angeles this week.

The MARIACHI USA Foundation is sponsoring a three-day experience where students learn from skilled Mariachi instructors and get the opportunity to meet and perform with students from other schools.

The camp runs from Nov. 2 - 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels on 555 W. Temple Street in Los Angeles.

For over 19 years the Foundation has provided grants to middle and high school Mariachi music programs throughout Los Angeles. For additional information visit the MARIACHI USA Foundation online.
