Investigators Say Fresno Student Wanted To Die

FRESNO (AP) ― Police say a Fresno high school student who was shot and killed after he attacked a campus police officer wanted to die that day.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says investigators of the death of 17-year-old Jesus Carrizales strongly believe that "this was a case of suicide by cop."

The teenager allegedly attacked Officer Junus Perry with a baseball bat on the campus of Roosevelt High School on Wednesday.

During the struggle, Perry fired one or two rounds at the student.

Police say the officer and teen had no prior run-ins.

Investigators are also looking into whether a knife found near the spot where Carrizales dropped his backpack belonged to him.
