Granada Hills Student Wins Engineering Scholarship
Granada Hills, Calif. (CBS) ―
A recent graduate of Granada Hills Charter High School was the winner of Northrop Grumman Corp.'s first annual Engineering Scholars program in the San Fernando Valley, the defense contractor announced Tuesday.
Eric Gobst was honored "for his exceptional academic achievements and
community service," according to the company.
Gobst is to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign, where he plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
The $10,000 scholarship he won may be used to defray the costs of tuition, books, lodging and meals.
To be eligible for the Engineering Scholars award, applicants had to have met SAT and grade-point-average requirements.
They also had to be San Fernando Valley residents and graduating seniors in the spring of 2008 and "had to plan to attend an accredited college or university as a fulltime student in an approved engineering program," according to the company.
