Ready Pac Foods Recalls 2 Peanut Butter Products

IRWINDALE, Calif. (AP) ― Ready Pac Foods Inc. is recalling two products containing peanut butter that may have been contaminated.

The company issued the voluntary recall Tuesday after one of its suppliers notified it of possible contamination amid a salmonella outbreak linked to six deaths and 470 illnesses.

Ready Pac says the recalled products -- apple and celery with peanut butter packages -- were distributed in 13 states. No illnesses have been connected with the products.

Consumers are being warned to avoid eating some foods containing peanut butter, but peanut butter sold in jars is not included.

The Food and Drug Administration has traced the outbreak to a Georgia plant owned by Peanut Corp. of America.
