No Damage As Small Quakes Rattle California

PARKFIELD, Calif. (AP) ― Two small earthquakes have jolted Central and Southern California, but there are no reports of damage or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.3 hit just before 5:22 a.m. Tuesday in Monterey County. It was centered 3 miles from the town of Parkfield.

Parkfield, located about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, sits on an active segment of the San Andreas earthquake fault.

An hour after the Parkfield quake, a magnitude-3.0 temblor rattled the San Diego County desert.

The quake at 6:21 a.m. was centered 6 miles southwest of Ocotillo Wells, about 60 miles northeast of San Diego.

Authorities said no damage or injuries were reported from either quake.
