Magnitude-4.0 Quake Rattles Central Coast

TEMPLETON, Calif. (AP) ― Scores of people say they felt a small earthquake that shook California's Central Coast, but there are no reports of any damage or injuries.

Seismologist Dale Grant of the U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4.0 quake struck at 8:20 p.m. Saturday and was centered five miles west of the town of Templeton and eight miles southwest of the much larger Paso Robles, at a depth of about three miles.

Grant says damages are rare at magnitude-4.0 but "people really felt it." He says about 1,000 people from the area went to the USGS Web site and reported the shaking.

San Luis Obispo County sheriff's Sgt. Dale Strobridge says his station received a handful of calls about the quake, but none reported any problems.
