A apartment building in Long Beach was evacuated due to roof damage caused by an earthquake aftershock Tuesday afternoon.
A Fire Department spokesman said more than a dozen residents were forced out of nine apartment units in a Locust Avenue complex after someone noticed damage to the building's eaves.
When Long Beach firefighters arrived on scene, they found a 70-foot section of a roof peeling away at the roofline.
The building was red-tagged and in danger of collapse.
The Red Cross said the residents spent the night in emergency housing.
No injuries were reported.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a magnitude-4 quake centered near Los Angeles International Airport shook Southern California.
The aftershock occurred near the epicenter of Sunday's 4.7 quake, which caused strong shaking and light damage in the beach towns south of the airport.
