3 Earthquakes Shake, Rattle, Roll Hemet Area

HEMET, Calif. (CBS) ― A magnitude-3.1 earthquake, preceded by two smaller temblors, struck the Hemet area Monday afternoon, though no injuries or damages have been reported.

The largest and latest earthquake struck at 2:34 p.m. about four miles southeast of Valle Vista and eight miles east-southeast of Hemet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first earthquake -- with a magnitude of 1.9 -- hit the area at 1:55 p.m. and was followed by a magnitude-2.8 shaker at 2:30 p.m.

"We did not feel or hear a thing here," said Jody Hagemann, a Perris-based spokeswoman for the Riverside County Fire Department.
