Prosecutors Union Sues County, District Attorney

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A prosecutors union has sued Los Angeles County, claiming the district attorney's office retaliated against employees for their union activities.

The Association of Deputy District Attorneys filed the lawsuit Friday in federal court against the county and District Attorney Steve Cooley.

It claims that union supporters were suspended without pay, threatened with firing and some were transferred to lengthen their commutes in what managers allegedly dubbed "freeway therapy."

The union was certified last year to represent 1,000 county prosecutors. It's in contract negotiations with the district attorney's office.

A message was left early Monday with the county counsel's office.
