A Democratic primary rival of U.S. Representative Laura Richardson has announced the start of a write-in campaign against the Long Beach congresswoman.
Peter Matthews says he'll seek to unseat Richardson, who has come under fire for her history of defaulting on home loans and other issues.
Richardson defeated Matthews in the June Democratic primary. Matthews said he is now seeking to collect enough signatures to run against her in the general election because no candidates from other parties are running.
The congresswoman went from Long Beach City Council to the state Assembly in 2006 and a year later won the Los Angeles-area congressional seat formerly held by the late Juanita Millender-McDonald.
