Pet Sterilization Law Takes Effect In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Sterilization of pets has become law in Los Angeles. An ordinance requiring spaying or neutering of most cats and dogs by 4 months of age was signed at a City Hall ceremony Tuesday morning.

The goal is to make Los Angeles a so-called no-kill city by reducing the number of animals that end up in shelters and being euthanized.

Longtime animal-sterilization advocate Bob Barker of "Price is Right" fame was a major advocate of the law.
