The Monterey Bay Aquarium's newest addition -- a young great white shark -- is drawing record crowds.
Aquarium officials say nearly 17,000 people visited the aquarium on Sunday, days after the shark's arrival. That's the sea-life center's largest single-day crowd.
The previous record was set on a Sunday in February, 1985, when just over 15,000 people came to the aquarium during the first President's Day weekend after it opened.
The shark's nearly six-foot-long and weighs over 100 pounds. It was captured off the Southern California coast on August 17th.
It's the second time the aquarium has hosted a great white. Aquarium staff say attendance figures rose by more than 30 percent during the first great white shark's 198-day stay in 2004 and 2005.
