Environmentalists Sue To Protect Endangered Condor

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) ― An environmental group is suing two federal agencies over a management plan it says fails to protect endangered California condors from lead ammunition.

The Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the Bureau of Land Management and the Fish and Wildlife Service.

The BLM adopted a management plan for an area north of the Grand Canyon known as the Arizona Strip in January 2008, and Fish and Wildlife issued an opinion on the plan that environmentalists say is flawed.

BLM Arizona Strip spokesman Scott Sticha says the management plan does not address hunting ammunition. He declined to comment specifically on the lawsuit.

Environmentalists are seeking a ban on lead ammunition in the condor range.
