Barker Pledges $1.5M To Move 'Billy' The Elephant

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Longtime "Price is Right" host Bob Barker has pledged $1.5 million to move a lonely elephant to a sanctuary in Northern California.

In a letter Monday, Barker said he would donate the money to move Billy, the only elephant remaining at the Los Angeles Zoo, to the facility run by the Performing Animal Welfare Society.

There, Billy would be reunited with Ruby, a former Los Angeles zoo resident.

Billy is caught in a long-running dispute between city officials and animal rights advocates about whether the elephant exhibit at the zoo should be closed and replaced with a $42 million enclosure.

Construction has stopped on the project, and the City Council is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to scrap it altogether.
