Bear Cub Goes Hot-Tubbing In Ventura
VENTURA, Calif. (AP) ―
A bear cub wandered into a Ventura neighborhood, climbed a tree and took a dip in a hot tub before running back into the mountain wilderness.
Residents called police at about 2 a.m. Monday to report the young black bear roaming around Hemlock and Santa Clara streets. Officers followed the approximately 100-pound animal until it climbed a tree in front of a house.
Resident Stephen Schafer says he looked outside at about 3 a.m. and thought "there is a really big poodle in my backyard." He then realized, "Hey, that's not a poodle."
Department of Fish and Game officers say the cub wandered into a backyard hot tub after leaving the tree.
The cub then got out of the tub, hopped a fence and made its way into the backcountry north of the city.
