Running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates were held out of the San Diego Chargers' preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Gates' status for the game Saturday night had been uncertain. He missed three practices during the week with what he said was general soreness.
Tomlinson had 12 carries for 28 yards in the Chargers' first two preseason games. A Chargers spokesman said Tomlinson has no reported injury.
Tomlinson and Gates were in uniform and participated in pregame warmups. Darren Sproles started at running back instead of Tomlinson. Brandon Manumaleuna started at tight end.
