JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) ― Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Jacksonville for the funeral procession for Michael Scott Speicher, whose remains returned to Florida 18 years after his FA-18 Hornet was shot down on the first night of the 1991 Gulf War.

On Friday, a hearse carrying Speicher's flag-draped coffin will first travel to the Memorial Wall in Jacksonville, a monument that bears the names of the area's war dead.


It will next travel to the church where the Navy pilot taught Sunday school, then to Forrest High School, where he excelled at swimming and tennis. The procession will also pass by Cecil Field Naval Air Station.

Speicher will finally be laid to rest at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. His family will hold a private ceremony.
