A witness says a balloon basket has caught on fire, separated from the rest of the balloon and crashed at Albuquerque's annual hot-air balloon fiesta.
There was no word on how many people were in the balloon basket, called a gondola, or their conditions after Friday's accident. Ambulances have arrived at the scene.
A witness, Alan Manning, tells The Associated Press he saw the basket in flames and saw things falling from it, but could not tell if they were people or the propane tanks that fuel the hot air balloons.
He describes the balloon as yellow and looking like an upside-down pyramid.
A balloon's gondola in an event of this type would typically have from two to six people.
