An earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area early Thursday, reports CBS station KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.
The magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck just before 1 a.m. about 4 miles from Chatsworth, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage, said spokesman Brian Humphrey, of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The quick jolt was felt by residents across Los Angeles County and knocked items off shelves and walls in some homes.
Hundreds of alarms went off in the Chatsworth area, but no injuries or structural damage had been reported, said Los Angeles police Lt. V. Neglia of the Devonshire Station.
Chatsworth is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
