Students Injured In Pa. School Bus Crash

PITTSBURGH (CBS) ― Dozens of schoolchildren and adults are hurt after their three school buses collided in Pennsylvania.

Police say some Beaver County students were on their way to a field trip at the Carnegie Science Center when their buses collided.

KDKA-TV is reporting that the buses hit into one another just after 9 a.m., injuring 42 people—including students and some adult chaperones.

A spokesperson at Mercy Hospital confirmed that they received 22 patients from the accident—including 15 students and seven adults.

All the injuries are believed to be minor.

Midland Borough School District Superintendent Dr. Nick Trombetta tells KDKA-TV that about 150 students were on the buses at the time—ranging from fourth- to eight-graders.

Trobetta says the injured students were being taken to both Mercy and Allegheny General Hospitals as a precaution. The other students, who were not injured, were taken back to school.

According to preliminary reports, the first school bus apparently swerved to avoid hitting a tractor-trailer—setting off the chain reaction crash.
