Pistachio Product Recalls

The following recalls have been announced because the products may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems:

Indian Groceries & Spices Inc. is recalling raw pistachio kernels. No illness has been reported. The recalled items were sold in Illinois, Florida, South Carolina, Ohio and Indiana between October 2008 and March 31, 2009. Details: by phone at 847-674-2480.
This recall includes the following items:
--Nirav Raw Pistachio Kernels; Nirav brand 7-ounce and 14-ounce plastic bags;
--Setton Raw Pistachio Kernels; Setton bulk 25-pound boxes; item 907; batch no. 2458 through 3668 and 0019 through 0849

Superior Nut and Candy are recalling select pistachio products. No illness has been reported. The recalled items were distributed nationwide through e-mail, phone and fax orders. Details: by phone at 773-254-7900.
This recall includes the following items:
--Streit's natural pistachio round tub for Passover; product 70233; 12/8 ounces; lot 0569
--Superior raw pistachios in zip-lock bag; product 64960; 6/35 ounces; lots 0629, 3368, 0869, 0779 and 3528
--Superior natural pistachio in clear cellophane bag; product 98012; 12/1.25 ounces; lots 0579, 0739, 0659, 0729 and 0639
--Superior salted natural pistachio in clear cellophane bag; product 98708; 12/ 2.75 ounces; lots 0789, 0639 and 0649
--Superior natural pistachio in lay-down plastic bag; product 65002; 18/16 ounces; lot 0649
--Dot's Finer Snacks salted nat pistachio in conffetti bag; product 94968 24/5 ounces; lots 0549,0559 and 0839

Zenobia Co. is recalling select California pistachio products. No illness has been reported. The recalled items were distributed nationwide after Oct. 27, 2008. They have lot numbers ranging from 8301 to 9083 Details: by phone at 866-936-6242.
