1 Dead, 4 Injured In Explosion Near L.A. Airport

Authorities say one firefighter was killed and four more people were injured as a series of explosions, possibly caused by a gas leak, rocked an area near LAX Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A mysterious explosion near Los Angeles International Airport has reportedly killed one firefighter and injured as many as four others, including another firefighter, according to authorities.
Several manhole covers were blown off, injuring several civilians. The two firefighters were taken to Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital. The condition of the other firefighter is not known.
The explosion happened just before 2 p.m. in an electrical vault near LAX.
Firefighters were trying to find the source of the problem when a second explosion caused their injuries and damaged a building housing the Department of Water and Power's credit union.
Several blocks of Sepulveda and La Tijera boulevards so air ambulances could land in the intersection.
