The FBI sought the public's help in identifying and catching "The Zorro Bandit," who has robbed at least six Southland banks.
The suspect, so named for his slicked-back hair, goatee and black clothing, robbed bank branches in Glendale and the Larchmont Village area Tuesday, said Laura Eimiller of the FBI.
The first holdup occurred at a Union Bank at 33 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale about 10:20 a.m., and the second occurred about an hour later a Wells Fargo Bank in Larchmont Village area of Los Angeles, Eimiller said.
It was the third time the same robber hit the Union Bank branch, Eimiller said.
The suspect has committed at least six bank robberies in the Southland since June 1, 2006, Eimiller said.
"The Zorro Bandit brandishes a weapon, which he partially conceals in the pocket of his jacket, as he demands cash from the victim tellers," Eimiller said.
He wore a "rag cap" and dark blue jacket yesterday.
At the Wells Fargo, he handed a teller a demand note, said he wanted all the money and flashed what appeared to be a silver-colored gun.
With cash in hand, he said: "Now you can call the cops."
He was described as about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a stocky build. He appears to be Latino, but speaks fluent English without an accent, Eimiller said.
Anyone with more information as to the name or whereabouts of the robber was asked to call the FBI at (310) 477-6565.
