Suspect Found Dead After Long Police Standoff

LOS ANGELES Police said Friday afternoon that a barricade suspect who was holed up for several hours, after allegedly shooting a woman, was found dead after an LAPD SWAT team swarmed the man's residence.

A woman was shot and wounded Friday morning in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles, and police officers surrounded the residence, where the suspect remained barricaded, authorities said.

The incident began about 8 a.m. in the 600 block of Laconia Boulevard, said Officer April Harding of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The woman was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

Police went to the location in response to a domestic dispute call, according to broadcast reports.

Television footage showed the injured woman emerging from the residence and being carried off by police, followed by a young child, then a man, who appeared to be placed in handcuffs.
