The National Weather Service says a cold front could bring strong winds gusting to 70 mph in some areas of Central and Southern California.
A wind warning predicts strong and damaging north winds late Tuesday morning in mountain areas of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties and the Antelope Valley desert area northeast of Los Angeles.
Gusty winds are forecast Tuesday afternoon in Southern California valleys, canyons and mountains.
The San Gabriel Valley could get blowing ash from last month's huge wildfire northeast of Los Angeles.
The winds are expected to peak in strength in the evening and diminish Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to dip, with Southern California highs in the 60s to low 70s.
