Thousands Still Without Power As Winds Die Down

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Gusty winds that toppled trees and snapped electrical lines in Southern California have eased but there are still strong gusts in some areas and thousands of people remain without power.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance of 50-mph gusts through Thursday morning in the Los Angeles County and Ventura County mountains and valleys. Red flag warnings of fire danger are up in some areas.

In San Diego County, wind toppled a tree onto a car driving down a San Marcos street Wednesday morning but the couple inside escaped serious injury.

Meanwhile, about 11,000 Southern California homes and businesses remain without power.

The winds were from a cold front that's expected to bring subfreezing temperatures to the deserts Wednesday night.
