Deputy Shoots, Wounds Suspect In Westmont

WESTMONT, Calif. Sheriff's detectives Wednesday investigated a deputy involved-shooting that left one suspect wounded in the unincorporated Westmont area of Los Angeles County , authorities said.

The shooting at West 104th Street and South Van Ness Avenue was reported around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said.

The events that led up to the shooting began when deputies arrived at West 104th Street and Western Avenue and spotted a vehicle speeding away, prompting the unit to follow the car, according to news reports.

The vehicle then stopped at 104th and Van Ness Avenue, where deputies fired on a suspect who exited the car, according to news reports.

The wounded suspect was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, according to news reports.

His or her condition was not immediately known.

Two other people who remained inside the suspect vehicle were taken into custody, according to news reports.

No deputies were hurt during the incident, Hecht said.

Deputies searched the area between 104th Street and Van Ness Avenue, and 104th Street and Western Avenue, for a weapon that may have been thrown out of the suspect vehicle, according to news reports.
