Police posing as prospective employers have arrested 12 day laborers seeking work on the streets of Costa Mesa.
Police Lt. Mark Manley said Friday officers fanned out across the city in plainclothes and regular cars about two weeks ago in response to residents' complaints about the workers blocking traffic.
Manley says once laborers agreed to take the jobs, they were arrested and brought to the city jail on suspicion of violating rules governing work solicitation. Manley says some were screened by federal immigration authorities.
